Clearing a family home is hard enough without the logistics. Here's a practical estate cleanout checklist for Corpus Christi families, in a sensible order.

Go slow on the first pass

This is the one job where the fastest approach is the wrong one. Before anything gets thrown away, walk the whole house once and look for documents, photographs, jewelry, and anything with a name on it. Check the backs of drawers, inside books, and the pockets of hanging clothes. People find deeds and savings bonds in strange places. Once that pass is done, the rest gets a lot easier to move quickly.

Sort into four destinations, not four opinions

Family, sell, donate, discard. Assign each room a destination pile and physically move things as you decide — a decision that stays in place gets re-litigated an hour later. If more than one family member is involved, it helps enormously to agree on the four categories before anyone starts, rather than negotiating item by item in a hallway.

Get the container there on day one

The most common regret we hear is waiting to order the dumpster until after the sorting is done. It doesn't work that way — sorting generates discard immediately, and with nowhere to put it, the discard pile just grows in the living room until it feels overwhelming. Having the container in the driveway from the start keeps the house emptying instead of rearranging.

What size these usually take

Whole-home estate cleanouts almost always want the 20-yard at $450 — that's roughly 7–8 pickup-truck loads, and it covers furniture, mattresses, carpet, and decades of accumulation. If the house is small, or family has already taken most of the furniture, the 15-yard at $400 can be enough. Both include delivery, pickup, a 5-day window and a 2-ton weight allowance.

Set aside the things that can't go in

Older homes turn up paint, chemicals, and tires in the garage, and any fridge or freezer needs its refrigerant properly removed before it can go in the container. Furniture, mattresses, carpet, clothing, lumber and general household goods are all fine. When something turns up that you can't place, set it aside and ask us rather than guessing.
